About Craniosacral Treatments at PCA

Frequently Asked Questions

What is craniosacral therapy (CST)? What is it good for?

Craniosacral therapy (CST)  uses light touch and gentle movement that works with the body’s nervous system and connective tissue (fascia) to help the flow of energy and fluids in the body.  Someone receiving CST typically lies face up on a massage table, fully clothed.  CST can help support people suffering from headaches and/or migraines, TMJ, post-concussive syndrome, nerve pain, chronic pain, and helps supports healing in the body.

Do you offer CST treatments at PCA?
When?
How much does it cost?

CST treatments are not a regular offering at PCA but are available when Cris (our craniosacral provider) is able to fit them into her schedule.

CST treatments happen outside of PCA’s acupuncture clinical hours.

Craniosacral treatments are on a sliding scale $75-$125 and last about an hour. There is a $30 late cancellation fee for CST and we ask for 24hours notice.

How do I make an appointment for craniosacral therapy?

When appointments are available our front desk staff will be able to schedule you an appointment by phone or in-person. Typically blocks of 5 or 6 appointments will be offered over a 10-12 week period. These appointments will be available on a first come basis.

To see when CST are being offered navigate to the online scheduler, click on the picture of Cris, select “Cranio Sacral Therapy” as treatment type. This will show you when available appointment times are for CST, but you will still have to call our front desk to schedule.

Anything else I need to know for a CST?

Please allow for at least 24 hours cancellation. The late cancel fee for CST appointments is $30.

AUGUST 2024 AAT-Training Flier

August 5NP Training

What is 5NP?

5NP or the 5-Needle Protocol, also known as the NADA, Acu-detox or Acu-Wellness protocol is an ear acupuncture protocol containing 5 points that has been used for almost 50 years in various health and community settings.

The treatment involves placing very thin acupuncture needles on the outer ear and uses points that help to rebalance the nervous, as well as other body systems. Originally 5NP was developed as a part of a community response to treat opiate addiction, but the protocol has been found to be useful for so much more including helping people to regulate sleep, digestion, tension, feelings of anxiety, depression, and can support people dealing with toxic stress, PTSD, or in recovery.

Who can practice 5NP?

This varies from state to state, but here in RI Licensed social workers, mental health counselors, drug and alcohol counselors, peers, and nurses (LICSW, LMHC, LCDP, peers, nurses) can use 5NP in their work once they have completed an approved training. Ultimately we would like to see more providers able to use 5NP in their work since it has such wide applicability and is something that can enhance other types of behavioral and mental healthcare, and is supportive of bringing people’s nervous systems back to a more neutral state of calm attention.

How do I get trained and learn more about 5NP?
To find an upcoming training (including here in RI) check the webpage for 5NP ear acupuncture on the People’s Organization of Community Acupuncture (POCA).
